How Regular Garden Maintenance Works
Once we have seen your garden, we agree a scope and a visit frequency that suits it, then look after the rest. We keep permanent notes for every property — gate codes, pets, plants you are fussy about, whether you prefer organic or conventional sprays — so the team arrives knowing your garden, not starting from scratch each visit.
You will get a message at least 24 hours before we arrive, and the team completes a walk-around before leaving so nothing is missed and every work area is left tidy. We use battery equipment where practical, which keeps noise and fumes down — something neighbours notice as much as clients do.
Along the way we keep an eye on plant health. If a hedge is showing signs of pests or disease, or a plant is struggling, we will tell you and suggest a plan rather than just trimming around the problem.
How Often Should Your Garden Be Visited?
There is no single right frequency. Fast-growing gardens with lawns and hedges often suit fortnightly or monthly visits; established gardens are commonly kept in good order with a visit every two or three months. We match the frequency to the garden and the standard you want — some clients want every weed gone, others want a practical tidy each visit.
One thing worth clearing up: when we say "two-monthly", we mean one visit every two months — not twice a month. Regular maintenance does not have to mean frequent visits, and many Auckland gardens are managed well on a less frequent schedule.
Plant Health, Not Just Tidiness
A garden can be tidy and still be quietly going backwards. Because we see your garden regularly, we notice the early signs others miss — a hedge picking up pests or fungal issues, a shrub that has stopped thriving, plants that need feeding rather than just trimming.
Where something needs attention, we tell you and suggest a plan — whether that is targeted treatment, a feeding programme through the growing season, or simply adjusting how a plant is pruned. Some hedges, like Eugenia, actually stay healthier with regular light trims, because each trim removes damaged foliage and encourages strong new growth.

If the garden has already got away, the best starting point is usually a one-off garden tidy up to bring it back to a good baseline, followed by regular maintenance to keep it there. How often do you visit?
Whatever suits the garden — fortnightly, monthly, two-monthly or quarterly. Fast-growing gardens usually need more frequent visits; established gardens are often kept in good order with a visit every two or three months. We recommend a frequency after seeing the garden, and it can be adjusted as the seasons change.
Can the visits change with the seasons?
Yes. Gardens do not grow at the same rate all year — spring and summer bring fast growth, hedges and weeds, while autumn and winter are more about leaves, pruning and preparing beds. We adjust what each visit focuses on, and the frequency can flex with the seasons too.
What is included in a maintenance visit?
Typically weeding, pruning and trimming, hedge and shrub shaping, lawn edges and light lawn care, seasonal tasks and green waste removal. The exact scope is agreed with you up front, and we prioritise what keeps the garden looking consistently cared for.
Do I need to be home during visits?
No. Most of our maintenance clients are not home when we visit. As long as we can access the garden, we look after the rest — we keep notes on gates, pets and preferences for every property, message you at least 24 hours before arriving, and let you know once the visit is done.
Can you follow specific preferences, like no spraying?
Yes. We keep permanent notes for each property and the team works to them — organic-only or no-spray preferences, areas to leave alone, bins in, gates shut. If you have a particular standard or pet peeve, tell us once and it is recorded for every future visit.
My garden is overgrown — can I start regular maintenance straight away?
Usually the best approach is a one-off tidy up first to bring the garden back to a good baseline, then regular maintenance to keep it there. We will recommend the right starting point when we see the garden — sometimes maintenance alone is enough.
